Batlak & Selvig – Spring/Summer 2011

Posted by awais on September 3, 2010 | No comments

Norwegian design duo Admir Batlak and Charlie Selvig revealed their spring/summer collection in Oslo on the 18th of August during Oslo Fashion Week. Instead of showing the collection at the main Oslo Fashion Week venue, they showed the collection at the contemporary art venue Galleri Riis – as usual.

Instead of having a regular fashion show with models walking down the catwalk, they opted for a fashion presentation. The guests were escorted into the venue in small groups. Inside the gallery the collection was displayed on mannequins. The atmosphere was more that of a vernissage than a fashion show. No models and no celebrities on the front row to steal the limelight – all focus was on the clothes. Blurring the line between fashion and art is not something which is new to the duo, as made evident by their previous work – for instance their Mondrian-inspired collection of cocktail dress a couple of years back.

The collection consisted of classic 60’s style dresses. Simple and clean silhouettes and above-the-knee hemlines.

Admir earned his graduate degree in Fashion Design from the Istituto Artistico dell’Abbigliamento Marangoni in Milan, while Charlie did her degree at Central Saint Martins in London. As students they did their internships at Proenza Schouler and Hussein Chalayan, and have since also worked as design consultants for Dolce & Gabanna and guest lecturers at the National College of Art in Oslo. Along with Kristian Aadnevik, Peter Dundas and Siv Støldal, the duo are undoubtedly amongst the most interesting contemporary Norwegian designers today.

Hope unveiled their Spring/Summer 2011 collection during Stockholm Fashion Week on the 18th of August. The colours this season are olive, black, white and camel. I especially like their use of leather in the collection. Keywords for the collection: Functional, simplistic, versatile basics.

Fashion Windows: Shanghai (NanJing West Road) August 2010

Posted by Qing on August 29, 2010 | No comments

Nan Jing West Road 南京西路, is a classic shopping street in Central Shanghai which can be dated back to 30s. Nowadays, it’s filled with flagship stores and department stores. It is a equivalent of a nice mixture of London Oxford Street, Regent Street and Kings Road.

Louis Vuitton flagship store is under construction and it strikes about a 10 story height…

More pictures from Louis Vuitton, Loewe, Miu Miu and Tom Ford after the jump.

Whyred – Spring/Summer 2011

Posted by awais on August 29, 2010 | No comments

Whyred showed their collection for the 2011 spring/summer season at Liljevalchs Konsthall on the 17th of August, during Stockholm Fashion Week. For this collection, the design team has experimented with lots of different fabric finishes – fabrics with oily, metallic and matte finishes. Fabrics include silks, cupro and viscose. The silhouettes are slim and the colour palette is mostly different shades of grey and white with blue and brown accents.

Inside Noise Market

Posted by Qing on August 26, 2010 | One comment

In the past 2 days I have been sourcing and researching all sorts in a mahoosive market in Guangzhou, a city 2 hours drive away north from HongKong. There you could find anything from belts to buttons, from fur trims to any type of fabric, from earings to zips etc…You wouldn’t know where to start from and that is just one market in that city. There’re a lot other ones specializing specific product areas.

In the middle of sourcing among all the car horns, human noises, walked pass a man and I loved his back pack so much that I had to run after him to take this shaky photo. His double denim also looks very spot on. Guys who want to try ‘double-denim’ take note here – boxy waistcoat and roll-up above-knee denim shorts is such a good combo by avoid looking too much denim on you !!

Peter Jensen – Spring/Summer 2011

Posted by awais on August 26, 2010 | No comments
London-based Danish designer Peter Jensen’s show was held on August 12th during Copenhagen Fashion Week. At the show Jensen unveiled his menswear collection for Spring/Summer 2011. Keywords for the collection: Loud colours, bold patterns, colourblocking, sophisticated tailored basics, nerd chic. Maybe something for Kanye West or Brad Goreski?

Peter Jensen’s will unveil his womenswear collection at Milk Studio on September 12th during New York Fashion Week.
Jensen also showed his women’s resort collection at the show in Copenhagen. The inspiration behind the resort collection was one of Jensen’s favourite childhood books – ‘Lisa’s birthday’. As with the menswear collection, the keywords are bold colours and eccentric patterns.

Journey to ‘That Dress’

Posted by Qing on August 21, 2010 | One comment

If I can only have one black maxi dress, it needs to be easily multi-styled, not too flared, it needs to have some texture, be a little bit asymmetric and it needs to have an interesting cut (not be just a long straight tube obviously). Thinking about all these criteria made me chuckle at myself a little - “pfffff, this is just mission impossible!”

On the other side, I often believe shopping is like a fate, for if you are supposed to meet ’something’, then voila !… you meant to belong to each other! In this post I will present to you that one special dress, the one I thought would be impossible to find. To get it, however, I had to go on quite a journey.

asymmetric shoulder with one side like a vest, the other side with a cup sleeve

Filippa K – Spring/Summer 2011

Posted by awais on August 18, 2010 | No comments

Fashion week season is well under the way in Scandinavia. Last week Copenhagen played host to the first of the Scandinavian fashion weeks, next up was Stockholm Fashion Week which started on Monday and ended yesterday, and right now Oslo is hosting its fashion week with its last show scheduled for tomorrow night. A lot of collections have been showed at these three fashion weeks, and we’ve decided to highlight a few of our favourites. We will post these reviews in the coming days.

Filippa K - Spring/Summer 2011

The collection we have decided to review first is from the Swedish clothing label Filippa K. The label was founded in 1993 by Swedish designer Filippa Knutson. Over the years Filippa K has become synonymous with simple, sophisticated silhouettes and minimalistic design – a Scandinavian Calvin Klein. Next season’s collection is no different. Simple, plain and wearable basics.

Filippa K - Spring/Summer 2011

The materials used are soft silks, cashmere, jersey and relaxed cottons. While last season’s palette was dominated by muted grays with accents of pastel pink and turquoise, this season’s colour palette is white, light grey and beige with warm orange, yellow and brown accents. The 90’s seems to be the biggest inspiration behind this collection, as indicated both by the colour palette, the silhouettes and design details such as the cargo style pockets on the trousers. The result is a simple and clean look, perfect staple pieces for the spring/summer 2011 wardrobe.

Editorialista Perfume!

Posted by Qing on August 17, 2010 | One comment

It is beyond your imagaination that not only movie stars and singers got their own perfumes out, but the editor at large is actually becoming Laaaaarge! Anna Dello Russo, editor at large for Vogue Nippon, is rumored (or possibly even confirmed) to launch her own perfume before Christmas 2010.

With bottle shaped as a golden heel, some critics point out the bottle design is a little tacky and put doubt towards the campaign which is featuring a blurry black and white image of the editor. I think it’s a very fashion insider’s thing.

Anna is a true celebrity within fashion industry and the name of her perfume ’Beyond’ even resembles very well to her own character. Her style is truly beyond, who has the balls to wear a ‘Wowzer’ cocktail dress at 9am in the morning during Fashion Weeks?!

Fashion photographer and blogger Tommy Ton from Jak & Jil has a long-term admiration to Anna and was even invited to her spectacular apartment in Milan.

If you have a look of Anna’s apartment, you would then realize the gold shoe bottle actually is a reflection of her true Italian Renaissance style. Editorialista is BEYOND the fashionistas!

“I love you back” 13: Dark Angel continued…

Posted by Qing on August 16, 2010 | No comments

This time the dark angel is blogger Susie Bubble. I’ve spotted her on the bus and was instantly drawn to her long line sheered shirt with long side splits. She played really well with different hem lengths by teaming the shirt with a pair of black cycling shorts. The black and navy colour blocking jacket was in a boxy shape, which is contrasted to the soft sheerness of the shirt. And to finish all a pair of chunky heel boots are essential additions! Gold studs and buckles were highlighted on the boots which gives a little touch of military. I tried very hard to hold myself back for not asking for a front shot.
