Alexander Wang’s pulse energy is not only on Fashion. I guess that we share similar music taste, I always find the music from his show are very ommfing! And it’s not only just ommfing, but he presents the newest and most updated and most up-coming artists…well … in my taste. (if you have the same one as well…) From his previous shows, I learnt the South African hip-hop group – Die Antwoord, way before the group gone mainstream everywhere. And also because the music world influence the fashion world as well (somehow in the random ‘butterfly-effect’ way), what’s the best to get cool music artists to represent your energetic diffusion line?!
Last season we saw Wang nailed hot DJ Diplo, and this season another music artist – Santigold. I’ve noticed her music way before she got big on both sides of Atlantic due to her early collaboration with a favourite DJ of mine Freq Nasty called ‘Creator’. And now I’m looking forward to her new album ‘American Dream’ coming out this year. And of course it’s no surprise to see Wang got her first on board. So…feeling the pulse, go yahhh!!
Whilst on the topic of models and campaigns, one of our all-time favourite designers has casted one of our all-time favourite models for his autumn/winter 2011 campaigns. We’re of course talking about Alexander Wang’s new campaign starring none other than Raquel Zimmerman. The campaign was shot by Fabien Baron and styled by Karl Templer.
Since I laid my attention on Chinese model Sun Fei Fei since early 2010, I felt this girl could go sky high. Well done for Sun Fei Fei for being selected for LV’s 2011 AW campaign. It’s probably better to have some angelic fresh face to perform these S&M-leather-shiny-clad collection. Nice work for selecting some less obvious and non-mood-direct-related faces!
Today Dior published the first images from their Autumn/Winter 2011 campaign in Italian fashion glossy, Amica. The campaign was shot by Mikael Jansson and features French actress and singer, Marion Cotillard. Cotillard’s co-stars in the campaign are three different versions of the Miss Dior handbag, two in exotic leather and one in the maison’s iconic cannage pattern.
The campaign will also be published in French magazine Madame Figaro and British Elle, which will be out in the end of this week, as well as the September issues of several fashion and lifestyle glossies including Vanity Fair.
A few days ago Prada released their campaign images for the autumn/winter 2011 collection. I have to admit that when I first saw the collection during fashion week earlier this year, I wasn’t too crazy about it, but after seeing the campaign images I must admit I am starting to reconsider. The campaign was shot by Steven Meisel and feature Frida Gustavsson, Melly Mittendorf, Julia Zimmer, Ondria Hardin and Antonia Wesseloh.
Contrast to last summer season of minimal props with window displays (which we also love love love and you may view here), Selfridges London is back with a boom for the bloom. The whole atmosphere is vivid, fun and colourful and happy mood. Of course it’s spring and of course it’s flowery…but the mushroom props just make you smile and add on the thoughtful edginess. Below here are the evidence.
For this Spring Summer season cool hot boy Alexander Wang couldn’t nail a more right personality for his Alexander Wang T line, Diplo, an american DJ/producer/song-write/ex-boyfriend of M.I.A. but now one half of Si-Fi DJ animation character Major Lazer. He is cocky, witty and as energetic as Wang. Diplo is a super star within his industry. Alex has always got some super cool music going on his show and his website. Therefore, choosing a DJ for his campaign is a natural instinct of decision to create a bigger trend wave. So guys, ready to shop Alexander Wang T line? I am!
Thanks to my friend John (who is finally taking his first baby steps into the world of blogs), I recently had the opportunity to attend a press screening of the Black Swan, courtesy of the lovely people at L’Oréal and Yves Saint Laurent’s fragrance La Nuit de l’Homme. What’s the connection between the fragrance and the movie, you ask? Well, there’s a several. The movie’s male lead is played by none other than French actor Vincent Cassel, who also happens to be the face of YSL’s new campaign for La Nuit de l’Homme.
Some might recall that this isn’t the first time he is fronting a campaign for the maison’s best selling fragrance; he also fronted their campaign in 2009. Very well, another connection with the movie is that the TV commercial for the fragrance was shot by none other than Darren Aronofsky – the director of Black Swan.
The perfume is spicy and masculine, but at the same time very sensual with notes of bergamot, cedar and lavender. It is definitely one of my all-time favourite men’s fragrances and I’m currently on my third bottle!
The movie itself was amazing. Not only was the story really captivating, but all the imagery surrounding it was beautiful as well. The fantastic ballerina costumes by Rodarte, or the amazing makeup by M.A.C. should be reason enough for any fashionista to want to see it. Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, Vincent Cassel and Winona Ryder all delivered amazing performances in the movie. I think this might be Natalie’s strongest role till date, and if she doesn’t get an Oscar for this role, there just is no justice!
Fei Fei is her first name. She’s another chinese model who’s been breaking through to the western fashion world in the past 2 years. In the past 6 months, I think her image has just becoming stronger and stronger. First here are some shots for brand campaign Shanghai Tang SS2010. She’s starring with Japanese male model Takashi Watanabe in SS10. There’s some calmness mixing with a tiny bit of little girl’s wittiness in her impressions.
Then following shots for Grazia China has proven her strength for studio commercial shots.
Her image could be quite neutral, just like a boy. Below image is Fei Fei starring in iD magazine December 2010.
Therefore, there’s no surprise that H&M chose her to be in their AW10 Christmas campaign. (below left) She looks so sweet and peaceful there together with DuJuan who is the very first true-international chinese model.
