Editorial: Travel fever

Remember the shoot I worked on with André Bentzer a few months back? Well, here’s some of the pictures from it. The theme of the editorial was “travel fever”, and the pictures were shot on a cold October day at Kjeller Airport, a few miles outside of Oslo. The pictures were printed in the December 2010 issue of Norwegian FHM. The fashion editor for the shoot was the fabulous John Ødegård Jensen, the styling assistant was none other than yours truly, the photographer was the very talented Andreas Kleiberg and the photo assistant was Trond Andersen. André is represented by Mikas in Stockholm, Elite in Milan, Marilyn in Paris and DNA in New York.

Vogue Paris & Mr. Sexy American

I learnt the news of Tom Ford guest editing Vogue Paris December from actually a streetwear website. Anyway, the news was great and when I got the issue, I have to admit, you can put the french spirit inside a stylish man, but you can never take his American heart away. Here’s a series of editorial.

All started very passionate and quite french…

….until it gets a bit ‘too passionate’…which is Ford’s american heart starting to show….

….then…become more sexual…this is equally frenchee and americanee

Returns to the Parisian way….

Have to say this is a series of very powerful shots. I like the concept behind it….2 old people….crazy in love….could we all still hold our passion still to that level when we are old???

Model Scene – Fei Fei Sun

Fei Fei is her first name. She’s another chinese model who’s been breaking through to the western fashion world in the past 2 years. In the past 6 months, I think her image has just becoming stronger and stronger. First here are some shots for brand campaign Shanghai Tang SS2010. She’s starring with Japanese male model Takashi Watanabe in SS10. There’s some calmness mixing with a tiny bit of little girl’s wittiness in her impressions.

Then following shots for Grazia China has proven her strength for studio commercial shots.

Her image could be quite neutral, just like a boy. Below image is Fei Fei starring in iD magazine December 2010.

Therefore, there’s no surprise that H&M chose her to be in their AW10 Christmas campaign. (below left) She looks so sweet and peaceful there together with DuJuan who is the very first true-international chinese model.

Model Scene ‘China Doll’ – Emma Pei 裴蓓

It is a great pleasure to see wmore Chinese models breaking into the international model scene. We had some positive feedback from our last model scene on Liu Wen. And recently another dolly face is slowly drawing my attention and her name is Emma Pei, once introduced by John Galliano to the world in a finale as his favourite model of the moment. Here I thank ‘Asian Models’ blog to have gathered so many vibrant editorial. So be ready to be blown away…

Channeling Charlie

I really love it when stylists make pop culture references in their fashion shoots. It can be a subtle nod to a famous photograph or maybe a full-on remake of an iconic vintage ad. For instance, I really loved this picture of Charlie’s angel Cameron Diaz in the August issue of Harper’s Bazaar (US edition). In the photo, Diaz isn’t channeling Natalie Cook, her character in the Charlie’s Angels movies, but another famous Charlie girl from the 70′s – one of the girls from the iconic “Charlie by Revlon” ads.

The stylist behind this photograph is Rachel Zoe and the photographer is Terry Richardson. I haven’t seen any new Charlie ads for years, but in the Autumn/Winter 2010-edition of Elle Collections, Revlon has a double spread where they’re running a couple of their vintage ones from the 70′s.

Ready to be Beige for AW10?

Actually it seems like the word ‘beige’ is being completely avoided in the entire magazine world. Instead they are using the word ‘caramel’ to describe one of the hottest trends for AW2010.

absolutely loving her long limps…black body-con hot-pants makes this ‘Caramel’ long-line Chanel cardigan so young and energetic! And this image is from Elle 1995, more than a decade agao!!

Then here is the gorgeous Lavin caramel man suit mixing with leopard print velvet trousers.

and love the red lipstick and car with caramel…

The girl from Atlantis

The May issue of Vogue Nippon has an amazing editorial shoot by one of my favourite photographers, Sølve Sundsbø. The shoot features Alla Kostromicheva and the styling was done by George Cortina. I love everything about these pictures; the light, the underwater setting, the clothes, the makeup – everything is just perfect.

Model Scene – Liu Wen 刘雯 is HOT!

As I was doing a research on all oriental designers and models, my attention is getting more and more locked on this girl. Yes, I don’t want to have any fuss on this entry’s title and just want to make it clear that the hottest model in my mind at the moment is Liu Wen from China.

First time noticing her was from Alexander Wang’s Pre-Fall 2010 collection photos from Style.com. Then she appeared every single city during AW2010 fashion week and walked for over 70 shows, I start to like her more and more.

In 2009, Liu Wen became the first woman of East Asian descent to walk the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. And I only just recognized her recently in Alexander McQueen’s SS10 show ‘Plato’s Atlantis’.

I think a good model with strong feature would not be covered completely unrecognizable with tons of make-up and hairs. For example Kate Moss, no matter what look she’s been styled on, you could always tell ‘that’s her!’ and Liu Wen is no doubtfully same.

Personally really like this 60s China Red Guard look created for Alexander Wang’s SS10 campaign. She actually looks very sweet there.

She casually brings out the boyish sexiness.

…and could also be full of strength in this i-D editorial December 2009…

…but you can not label her for just being a tomboy…

…although she’s already really good at layering pieces and rocking the DMs.

I was reading Elle earlier today and came across this beautiful editorial which was shot by Åsa Tällgård. The styling was done by Pauline Nærholm and the model is none other than Polina Barbasova – of Norwegian Top Model fame. The lighting, the soft colours, the clothes, the set – is there anything not to love about this shoot?
