Feeling the Pulse

Alexander Wang’s pulse energy is not only on Fashion. I guess that we share similar music taste, I always find the music from his show are very ommfing! And it’s not only just ommfing, but he presents the newest and most updated and most up-coming artists…well … in my taste. (if you have the same one as well…) From his previous shows, I learnt the South African hip-hop group – Die Antwoord, way before the group gone mainstream everywhere. And also because the music world influence the fashion world as well (somehow in the random ‘butterfly-effect’ way), what’s the best to get cool music artists to represent your energetic diffusion line?!

Last season we saw Wang nailed hot DJ Diplo, and this season another music artist – Santigold. I’ve noticed her music way before she got big on both sides of Atlantic due to her early collaboration with a favourite DJ of mine Freq Nasty called ‘Creator’. And now I’m looking forward to her new album ‘American Dream’ coming out this year. And of course it’s no surprise to see Wang got her first on board. So…feeling the pulse, go yahhh!!

The sound of Spring/Summer 2010

There’s no doubt that choosing the right music for a fashion show is important. I once read an interview with a designer who said that it can be compared to selecting the right soundtrack to a movie. It not only sets the mood, it also helps the spectators understand the designer’s vision and inspiration. I’ve compiled a list with some of the tracks used by designers for the spring/summer 2010 shows. Listening to some of these songs makes me wonder – what do these songs tell us about the collections? The inspiration? The person who buys them? Or even the label or designer?

Some people visit an art gallery when they need inspiration, some read a book and some go travelling. Ever since I first starting doodling design ideas in my sketchbooks, I’ve been making playlists with “songs to design by” – songs that inspire me, help me keep focused and get my creative juices flowing. Some times it’s the lyrics, other times the beat, a certain composition or a catchy chorus or hook. So, for this #musicmonday I thought I’d post some of these songs.
