Fashion Windows: Shanghai (NanJing West Road) August 2010

Posted by Qing on August 29, 2010 | No comments

Nan Jing West Road 南京西路, is a classic shopping street in Central Shanghai which can be dated back to 30s. Nowadays, it’s filled with flagship stores and department stores. It is a equivalent of a nice mixture of London Oxford Street, Regent Street and Kings Road.

Louis Vuitton flagship store is under construction and it strikes about a 10 story height…

Fashion Windows: Oslo August 2010

Posted by awais on August 13, 2010 | 6 comments

I’ve been having some real difficulties lately taking pictures of the fashion windows here in Oslo. Maybe it’s the light, maybe it’s the camera, maybe the photographer is incompetent or perhaps it’s a combination of all three. The window glasses are reflecting a lot of light so it’s difficult to take good pictures. Today’s been really cloudy though so I thought I’d use the opportunity to take a few snaps in my lunch break.

Louis Vuitton in Oslo, August 2010

Spools of golden lace in the windows at Louis Vuitton. The reels double as a table for the merchandise. The golden lace has also been used to embroider “Maison fondée en 1854″ on the back wall of the display chambre. I love the reels, but I feel more could have been done with the display . I’m all for keeping things simple, but I would have loved to see more merchandise on display and perhaps stuff which isn’t monogram (since they have that in the other windows too).

Fashion windows: London Selfridges August 2010

Posted by Qing on August 4, 2010 | 2 comments

Just when we all thought that the London branch of Harvey Nichols had done such a terrific job on their recent window displays, Selfridges went ahead and outdid them!

The theme ‘object’ seems to be a recurring theme in visual merchandising lately, especially ever since Maison Martin Margiela opened up their 20th anniversary exhibition. This also seems to be the central theme in Selfridges’ windows for August, as the windows only have the actual objects on display – the beautiful objects are left there alone to speak for themselves without the aid of mannequins or other fuss.

Fashion windows: London Harvey Nichols July 2010

Posted by Qing on August 1, 2010 | One comment

Department stores in London always show the greatest collaboration of magic minds and skills on window displays and this time, Harvey Nichols has really stealed the show by putting a series of display of fashion and ‘objects’.

If you look close, the car is formed by thousands of horse shaped jigsaws as well as the number plate.

Totally in love with this Celine playsuit.

A dress by hundreds of clothing clips… …

… …and a grand piano by thousands of cassettes.

Pencils as a tree… …

notepads form a sofa… The imagination is beyond… …

Fashion windows: Dallas (Galleria) June 2010

Posted by awais on June 15, 2010 | No comments

So I’m in Dallas at the moment after having helped my better half move from Houston. Today we went to the Galleria mall here in Dallas. It’s a lot smaller than it’s namesake in Houston, but they did have a few high-end fashion shops – including Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Thomas Pink.

Thomas Pink’s windows are inspired by London. More pics from Thomas Pink and other stores, after the jump.

Fashion windows: Houston June 2010

Posted by awais on June 9, 2010 | One comment

As mentioned in the last post, I’m in Houston at the moment. Whenever I’m in the city, I always make sure to visit Galleria – the biggest mall in Texas and one of the largest ones in the US. With several high end fashion boutiques such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Versace, Gucci and Dior to mention a few and anchors such as Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue, Galleria is paradise for fashion lovers. So, yesterday I took some snaps of some of the shop windows and displays at the mall’s main fashion walk:

Fashion windows: Barcelona March 2010

Posted by awais on April 11, 2010 | One comment

A few days back Qing and I were talking about adding some regular features here – one of the ideas we both agreed on was posting pictures of interesting shop windows. I’ve always been fascinated by visual merchandising and how designers present their creations to customers – both in the shop and in the shop windows. As a fashion student I used to go on excursions to New Bond Street, Selfridges and Sloane Street to snap pictures of the shop windows. The pictures I would save in my sketch books for inspiration.

A couple of weeks ago I was in Barcelona, and here’s a few snaps I took of some of the designer shop windows around Passeig de Gràcia.
