The holiday season is over us and the designer boutiques and department stores have started rolling out their christmas and winter displays. Some are really subtle, some are really in your face, whilst some are so plain that you can’t really tell it’s a christmas window. More pictures after the jump.

Fashion Windows: Oslo August 2010

Posted by awais on August 13, 2010 | 6 comments

I’ve been having some real difficulties lately taking pictures of the fashion windows here in Oslo. Maybe it’s the light, maybe it’s the camera, maybe the photographer is incompetent or perhaps it’s a combination of all three. The window glasses are reflecting a lot of light so it’s difficult to take good pictures. Today’s been really cloudy though so I thought I’d use the opportunity to take a few snaps in my lunch break.

Louis Vuitton in Oslo, August 2010

Spools of golden lace in the windows at Louis Vuitton. The reels double as a table for the merchandise. The golden lace has also been used to embroider “Maison fondée en 1854″ on the back wall of the display chambre. I love the reels, but I feel more could have been done with the display . I’m all for keeping things simple, but I would have loved to see more merchandise on display and perhaps stuff which isn’t monogram (since they have that in the other windows too).

Pastels + hell = pasthell?

I’m on a quest at the moment. A quest to find some nice black or dark grey tops to wear this spring. That is easier said than done.

I love spring and it is my favourite season, but I hate spring fashion with passion. Those who know me know that I mostly wear dark colours – dark greys and black to be more exact (I’m an autumn boy at heart). Therefore, what the shops have in store at the moment is a complete nightmare for me. This is the sight that met me earlier today when I went window shopping in my lunch break:

I think autumn has just started in Australia. Maybe I should just order clothes online from there instead.

Fashion windows: Barcelona March 2010

Posted by awais on April 11, 2010 | One comment

A few days back Qing and I were talking about adding some regular features here – one of the ideas we both agreed on was posting pictures of interesting shop windows. I’ve always been fascinated by visual merchandising and how designers present their creations to customers – both in the shop and in the shop windows. As a fashion student I used to go on excursions to New Bond Street, Selfridges and Sloane Street to snap pictures of the shop windows. The pictures I would save in my sketch books for inspiration.

A couple of weeks ago I was in Barcelona, and here’s a few snaps I took of some of the designer shop windows around Passeig de Gràcia.
