Well…if she wanted attention, she’s got it! A photographer at Central Saint Martins fine art MA show was wearing this bare back dress looking like it’s been unzipped. The dress has a quite complexed tailoring construction around shoulders with folded pleating details to hold the shoulders together. While the red lining peaking through, this definitely means one serious sexy business!
Also spotted another fine lady at Selfridges London my favourite fashion floor 3rd floor Young Fashion channeling a ballerina low back top with high waisted wide leg floaty trousers. What can I say…wow…still strongly believing of what John Galliano said before – back is the most sexy part of a woman!!!
Contrast to last summer season of minimal props with window displays (which we also love love love and you may view here), Selfridges London is back with a boom for the bloom. The whole atmosphere is vivid, fun and colourful and happy mood. Of course it’s spring and of course it’s flowery…but the mushroom props just make you smile and add on the thoughtful edginess. Below here are the evidence.
This other night, passing Selfridges…got caught by another sexy ad by Tom Ford’s new launched perfume – Neroli Portofino
A bubble wall was created on the window of Selfridges with all bubbles risen upwards…
Tom knows how to sell his product….of course…always sexually…
Christmas is finally here and it brings a step closer to my little travel plan to Thailand. It’s always tricky to pack for traveling and one thing in your bag you definitely need is a good bottle of perfume, which gives you fresh energy. I’ve been looking for a while, and this one is just perfect from the bottle design to its scent and even its name. I introduce you Voyage D’Hermes.
Unlike any other perfume it has nearly no colour and some critics say it’s like water—barely there. But it smells really fresh with a hint of citrus. As we all know perfume always depends on each person’s body temperature to bring out the second note. Based on my previous sample test, I believe that I have the right body temperature. You could sense the cumin is there, and up against the cardamom and ginger, it is kept in check and makes for a light middle aspect that has unexpected complexity. Then the base returns to the mineral woody path which leads your mind traveling through a sun-baked earth.
What I love most is the bottle design. It’s absolutely ideal for traveling. Though a little 35ml bottle costs you £53 from Selfridges, the bottle is covered with a hard metal holder. And when you twist the glass bottle linked inside, it swirls out the head of bottle ready to spray. And did I say the best part of it? The perfume bottle is designed to be refillable which is very environmental friendly. The refillable bottle is 120ml and will cost you a very reasonable £65 from Selfridges.
Wrapped in Hermes trade mark orange bag, I wish everybody a Merry Christmas and ready to step into a brand new decade!
Two cleaners smoking and gossiping in front of Selfridges futuristic shoe window.
After dinner at Busaba Ethai just behind Selfridges last night, we spotted lots of people wheeling props and trees on to the road. Suddenly I realised I was now witnessing how Selfridges make their amazing windows. This was the first time I had actually seen them making the windows, witnessing a work in progress.
This is the east side of Selfridges, people were gathering at the corner window display as I walked up towards them.
A little peak of the funny Lacoste window. Starting from the east side corner and walking up to the front, I still couldn’t figure out what the main theme was this time…
…I got even more confused when I saw the Havaianas display in the next window, thinking to myself -’what are they trying to build?’
The visual merchandising people were working inside the window display. They were communicating with team members outside via mobile phones. Ah, technology. Wonder how they used to do this back in the day.
I really thought this was going to be a regular window until I saw staff installing tons of pine branches and star lights around the windows. I suddenly realised that this was their christmas display! The christmas displays at Selfridges are always spectacular. I felt lucky to be witnessing this work in progress. Although this was the christmas display, I still couldn’t figure out the main theme this time though.
TOYS?!!
…and more TOYS??
…and more…
even MOOOOOOORE….and stuffed TOOOOYYYYS….
…and…A FUN HOUSE!
While all the other fashion department stores here in London are digging their brains, trying to come up with a spectacular and extravagant fashion theme for their christmas windows, Selfridges has done it once again and surprised everyone – with a series of christmas windows dedicated to toys. Who said toys are only for children? The windows had all sorts of toys, suitable for children of all ages – from 4 to 84. There were intelligent toys, cute toys and quirky toys – something for every taste. It’s true, we are all being very generous when it comes to our own children and our own immature minds!
Selfridges has opened up an exhibition in honor of Dame Vivienne Westwood sponsored by Melissa. The exhibition is located at basement of Selfridges ‘Ultra Lounge’. It’s simply too many gems there.
a lot of them look a bit worn which add on more value of the collection…
each design is labeled with name and the year of launch…
Apolo sandals…
the famous Rocking Horse Ballerina….is one of true originals from 80s…and you can still order these designs from Westwood’s World’s End boutique on King’s Road with around £400-500. Though waiting time is around 4 weeks, it’s definitely a worth waiting purchase.
…I clearly remember this printed toe-shaped multi-straps shoe from year 2002, because I was so close to own them at Davies Street Boutique but lost them to another client just entering the shop before me…damn!!
now these babies are just looking so ‘Current’ and ‘Acceptable’ to wider audience, but back to 15 years ago, those curved heels were a shocking design!
…and with my amazing fashion memory from teenage time, this baby is from 1994…and when I check the year on the label, I’m so proud I was damn right!
Just when we all thought that the London branch of Harvey Nichols had done such a terrific job on their recent window displays, Selfridges went ahead and outdid them!
The theme ‘object’ seems to be a recurring theme in visual merchandising lately, especially ever since Maison Martin Margiela opened up their 20th anniversary exhibition. This also seems to be the central theme in Selfridges’ windows for August, as the windows only have the actual objects on display – the beautiful objects are left there alone to speak for themselves without the aid of mannequins or other fuss.
